Is it deep? Are you turning it regularly? You can purchase microbes, but then again, if the conditions are right, they will come. It needs to stay moist, too. how about adding some leaves? Hay should be good, but leaves will help, too. Also, cutting up your kitchen scraps in various shapes is a good thing to do. Don't put real big stuff in there, either. It will break down quicker the smaller it is. Hope this helps! Oh! You might try using the liquid molasses. Mix it with water and distribute evenly as possible throughout the pile. I find it easiest turning my compost pile with a pitchfork or shovel, depending upon the stage it is in. Nothing heats mine up better than road kill! It's amazing, if your up to it. I hit a squirrel the other day just down the street from where I live. I went home, got an old bucket and put some dried dead leaves in the bottom of it (in case the squirrel was messy). I scooped him up with a shovel, put him in the bucket, put it in the back of my truck and took him home. I pushed aside some of the existing debris in the pile and dumped him in (I did make sure he was not breathing). If he would have been, I would have gotten out the .22 short ammo & put him out of his misery.
