My understanding is that St Augustine was originally a grass that grew in South Africa. It migrated northward to the Ivory Coast because it made such a nice sleeping surface. And as a sleeping surface, it came to the Americas on slave ships. It was named after St Augustine, FL if I'm not mistaken.

Bermuda? I'm guessing totally but I'd say it's named after the island.

But names can be funny. The cardinal bird was named after the Pope's cardinals. The canary was named after the Canary Islands where they were found but the islands were named after the dogs that lived there (Latin name of canis).
