Dan; You might save some expense buying in bulk when spreading on your whole yard. I do not know a bulk provider in your area, but Soil Building Systems is not to far from you, and they have excellent dairy cow based compost.

They also have a nifty little calculator on the site to help plan quantaties of compost and spreading rates.

If your considering spreading compost on the entire lawn and you want to save a back, I recommend a company out of Prosper, TX. You can check them out a soilexpress.com. Blowmaster.com will aslo lead you to their site.
They have a hopper truck equiped with a blower and can blow the compost, mulch, etc where you want it. I had them blow 17 yards of compost on my back lawn last fall to a depth of 3/4". The process took about an 1 1/2 hours vs 100's of trips with the wheel barrow. It was economical also. Less than $30 yd delivered and put down. I went in behind that with a CGM application to ward off any weeds. I'm very pleased with the results. My neighbor and I will split a load for the front this summer.
Only caution, it gets dust everywhere!!!! Pool owners beware!
