In Southlake Home depote sells Green Sence Texas Green Sand in 40 lb. bags for $7.95 and just across the street Lowes sells Earth's Finest Green sand in a 40 lb. bag for $3.95. Would any of you know whether one is better than the other?

Well, green sand is a naturally ocurring mineral called glauconite made up of iron, potassium and other trace minerals. I'd imagine that you could compare the guaranteed analysis rating marked on each product if they list them. The primary use for it as a soil amendment is to help with soils that are iron deficient, so you might base a comparison on that if you can. I'm not sure that there'd really be much difference from brand to brand, but I'm not up on how it's mined and/or processed. I think I've read that it comes from a limited number of locations - maybe just sites here in Texas. Not sure about that..

Let us know if you find out anything that points to a given brand being better.

The 3.95 one is much, much better than other for three reasons:
1) Just like Albertson's milk vs Borden milk, one isn't paying the marketing costs behind a "brand name."
2) Texas green sand is Texas green sand.
3) It's half the price.

I stopped buying 7.95 green sand 3 years ago because of Lowe's. Now, I put the money I save into gas for my car...
