some of my day lilies have light yellow new leaves, even the flowerstalks are yellow. This spring I had put some corn gluten meal on the ground. Maybe I overdid a good thing? I have another area of day lilies and those are green and did not receive the corn gluten meal.
Was this caused by the corn gluten meal?

My day lillies also get yellow leaves here and there too. I have never used corn gluten, so I don't think that was the cause. I was wondering if it is iron deficiency or the soil needs more acid like acid-loving plants get yellowish when the soil is too alkali??? For now, I remove the yellow leaves by just pulling. Sorry I don't have a good answer but at least I wanted to tell you it wasn't corn gluten.

Thanks Miss Tulip
but if I would pull all the yellow leaves I would not have any day lily left. I have the small Stella D'ora.

Does any ever cut back the leaves on day lilies or cut back the stalk on tiger lilies. Only half my tiger lilies bloomed thsi year, some of them right next to each other

Your day lilies need more organic matter in their soil. Most likely you hve enough iron in the soil but the ph is off so the plant can't get to it. Get some good compost and regular cornmeal and mix it into the soil around the day lilies, then water well. You should see a much happier plant in just 24 hours. Also, foliar feed them once in a while. They really like that.

Thank you Kathe
I will follow your advise with the compost and cornmeal. I also will do some foliar feeding. I have garden-ville sea tea. Up to this point I thought I had overdone it with the corn gluten meal which I understood had nitrogen in it.
the day lillies are still yellow, are blooming as of now.
Thanks again and I will let you know if this will do the trick.
