Last fall, we planted about 20 eleagnes along two lines of our property. We knew they would grow into great privacy and windbreak hedges from observation of former neighbors. We live where the soil is black and acid poor. In the event, one of them turned yellow and died pdq this spring, but the others seem to be prospering to some extent. At the same time, we're getting a lot of yellow leaf on them. One nursery said to add nitrogen and acid to the soil; another said, quite adamantly, "leave them alone! Stop watering around them." I did put down some nitrogen before talking to the second guy, but the yellowing continues. Which or what is correct?
