Anyone have suggestions for the best varieties for Ellis County Texas? I want to plant peaches, pears, plums and any others that might do well in caliche-type soil. I'm sure I could find the info with a little effort, but I was hoping someone might have some experience to share, good or bad. Thanks, Kent

I'm not in your county, but not too awfully far away. I grow Ranger peaches, and Santa Rosa and Methley plums. All of these varieties do well here. I have tried pears over the past ten or so years with no success. They always die from some type of bacterial blight. Supposedly, Orient pears are suited to our area.
