What would cause lady bugs to "attack" a tree? Damage is limited to one area of tree approximately 6 feet off of ground. Makes small recesses into tree about qtr. inch deep. Tree does not appear to be in stress. Only a couple of years old. Properly planted. Am going to spray with orange oil. Any suggestions??

Just guessing but three things come to mind: *** (your tree is a lady bug meat market), food (tree with aphids?), or protection from the environment or perhaps hibernation.

In any case, I would not kill the lady bugs under any circumstances. Relocate them if you can.

The lady bugs are not attacking your trees! Something else has caused the problem and the Lady's are probably eating them. The Lady Bugs might just be hanging around for some other reason so do like the previous person suggested, remove them first. The Sick Tree Treatment on the wound will help.

There are several beetles that might resemble ladybugs and be harmful.

Please send some specimens of these insects to me
