As you may recall from a previous post, I was intent on buying a Caddo Maple. See link:

However, when I started pricing Caddos I heard a lot of negativity. I contacted eight small nurseries. Only Rohdes had the Caddo Maple. Shades of Green told me they had been carrying the balled and burlapped trees, and have stopped. The Caddos were not coming out of transplant shock. They thought it might be due to root loss, and if they found a supplier of Caddos in containers, they would carry them again. (She compared the Caddo to a Live Oak in that maybe the plant has "primary roots" and if the tree was dug up without enough root, it wouldn't make it.)
Redentas also no longer carries Caddos. This time I was told that they weren't doing well, and they were no longer carrying them at any of their nurseries. She said they seem to thrive only in East Texas.
The Ent brought up an interesting point. Are the Caddos inadvertantly being drowned? All the research I found on Caddo Maples said they like well-drained soil. Link:

If you live in black clay, well-drained is out of the question.
Someone else suggested that Caddos like it slightly acidic. Does anyone else have any ideas?
