I received a free bur oak. It is still in the pot (5 gallon) and already has small leaves. I understand I have missed the optimal planting time, but am wondering if I should go ahead and try to plant it or see if I can nurse it through until next year. What do nurseries do with unsold trees?

By the way, I live in Waco and have "black gumbo" soil.

Thanks in advance for advice.

Dave

Yes, fall and winter are better but container grown trees can be planted any time. Get it in the ground ASAP. Planting instructions are on this forum in several places.
