Thuja occidentalis
Thuja plicata is the western arborvitae and a much better tree than the eastern arborvitae.It is more upright, usually a single trunk and fewer pest problems. The brown cast to the foliage in the winter is common and not a serious issue. It can grow to over 50 feet tall, but rarely does.

HABIT: Upright, multi-trunked evergreen shrub or small tree. Plated or juniper-like foliage. Tight, pear-like shape when young, opening with age. Native to Northeast USA.
CULTURE: Grows anywhere.
USES: Cemeteries are the primary habitat of this plant.
PROBLEMS: Every insect known to man either eats or lives in this plant.
